Losing hair is normal phenomenon in pregnancy

During pregnancy it is always noted that one’s shin glows and hair is shiny and bouncy. We may get the feel as though our hair growth has gone up in some cases it may be so and some it may be just the opposite. The hormones levels of our body work in such a way where at any given point only 85% of your hair is growing and the rest 15% is dormant and can fall off during daily hair routines of shampooing and brushing.

Any normal woman loses up to 100 strands a day and that is absolutely normal.
When pregnant more quantity of hair goes into resting period thus causing more hair fall and less growth. But it isn’t alarming it’s not like you will suddenly go bald or scanty, it’s just a temporary phase and eventually after a few weeks it will settle down.
The clinical word for this temporary hair fall caused during pregnancy is ”Telogen Effluvium” which occurs maximum in the first and second trimester and eventually settles down till your third trimester.

Hair and nails show a lot of changes during pregnancy, some have often seen that their persistently curly locks have all of a sudden straightened out and those who had straight silky hair now have curly locks. All these are common phenomenon’s and have no reason to cause any anxiety. To make sure your hair is protected all you can do is increase your hair oil massages from once in a fortnight to weekly, and try and wash your hair less often and with a daily nourishing or even herbal shampoo do not forget to condition your hair as dryness is also one of the reasons for your hair to turn brittle.

Eating good nutritious food and making sure you have included lots of greens in your diet will also do wonders to your hair and skin.

Avoid excessive blow drying or hair ironing as much as possible but in case you have to get it done, try to keep the settings on the cool option and not the hot settings.

Abnormal levels of hair loss if noticed then for sure it is a deficiency of a certain vitamin, it’s recommended to talk to your health care expert immediately so he can put you on a daily vitamin supplement. Supplements like vitamin B complex, Vitamin C, and Zinc will help you from controlling excess hair fall the dosage should be prescribed by your health care expert.
