Rules Of Pregnancy For Working Women In Canada

A mother's joy begins when she hears a heartbeat for the very first time. Being a working women and pregnant can be difficult as it is exhausting to meet the work commitments and doctor appointments. Some women suffer with morning sickness and it is not easy for them to work during morning times, hence these women can manage their workload when they feel best.

A working woman who plans to start a family or who is pregnant, Canadian law protects their employment rights. Canadian territories or provinces does not allow any organization to mistreat, fire or refuse to hire a woman at work only because she is pregnant. It is illegal as per the human rights law. During the time of interview it is not mandatory for a woman to tell the employer that she is pregnant. Also the employer does not have any rights to ask questions about pregnancy. An organization cannot force woman employers to take a medical test which determines the health risks of an individual which are related to the job. The woman can keep working during her pregnancy as long as she wants to, also the employers has no right to pay the woman employee less wages or force the pregnant woman to leave. Any kind of discrimination on the basis of pregnancy is dealt by the human rights commission, or a complaint can be filed by the woman to local human rights commission.  As per the Canadian federal and provincial laws all organizations are required to maintain a safe and healthy work environment, if the production environment is dangerous to woman’s health and safety, an employer cannot force the pregnant woman to work. But still an employer can make changes to job duties and the work area for the pregnant woman.
